So 2010 is finally here and so are the New Year’s Resolutions. This will  (hopefully) be updated as I work towards my yearly goals. This will be a living document so check back periodically.

Take a walk on your campus, or park, or practically anywhere outside what do you see? You see people smoking in their leisure.  One good sign I have seen is a decline, especially among my age range, of smokers. You still have the few that still smoke because either they’re addicted from youth, think its cool, want to be a BAMF, or just want to be rebels. Whatever the reason, we need to help our friends, family, and loved ones try to quit. I know that not everyone wants to quit and I am fine with that, but my hope is that by viewing the photos below that the current smokers out there will take a second breath before lighting up:

I know some of you have been anxiously waiting to hear an update about Res-Life and here it is. I am still working on it slowly but surely. Some things that I’ve got knocked out is the profile system, contact system, messaging system, and event system. I’m currently working on the admin panel and finishing up the gaming and achievement system. I am looking for a few private beta-stage testers before I do a public beta release to Georgia Southern. I would have like to of already did a public release, but as usual classes come get in the way and anyone that knows me, knows that I highly value education and it comes first. So to recap, I have a few features remaining before public launch and I am looking for a few brave souls to help in the initial bug squashing!

What is the Zii Egg?

Essentially this product has the potential to surpass Apple’s iPod touch and Microsoft’s Zune.  It can run a performance enhanced version of Andriod and ZiiLab’s own Plaszma OS. Some of the features that I found interesting is that it features an SD card slot expandable to 32gb. This opens the possibilty of storing different genres of music and movies on different sd cards. The true 1080p HD output was also intriguing. The Zii will allow you to connect your device to your HD television and view HD content in realtime. This has amazing capabilities from streaming HD content to ultra portable multimedia consoles. The hardware GPS is a plus for me, seeing as the iPhone still uses a software/celluar based GPS system and it is not true GPS hardware. This could enable the user to create Augmented Reality apps with the help of the TWO built in cameras. It features a front facign VGA camera for possible video streaming or picture taking and an HD camera in the back for recording HD video. Top it off with wireless B/G and Bluetooth for connecting on the go and you have a very well rounded mobile touchscreen device. I see great potential for this product. So I’ve seen alot of bad press about Pepsi’s Amp Up Before You Score app so I figured I would check it out. It basically gives you some pick up lines and general info about 24 sterotypes of females. Most of the content for each category tends to be overly dramatic and made for the sterotype. I seriously got a good laugh at this app. Even the artwork for the app is to depict the sterotypes. My question to everyone is, why are you all getting bent out of shape about this application? I view it as being comical and the thought of some guy actually trying to use this app for legit reasons is even funnier. Has our society gone past the point of being light hearted and humorous? I admit some of it was done in bad taste, but guess what people? You don’t have to download the application. Some females have issues because it deals with sterotypes and it demoralizes woman, well guess what? Have you looked around lately? Women are wearing less clothing and acting more promisucous. There doesn’t have to be an app to point out that growing trend. Some people dislike the fact that guy’s can “Brag” about their score. Guys do this all the time and they have the ability to put as much or less information as they wish and ladies if you have a problem with your guy bragging about his encounters with you maybe you’re going after the wrong types of guys. Quite honestly I wouldn’t use this app past getting a good laugh, but then again I tend to be a different type of male anyways. Readers, what is your input on this? Am I the only one that views this app from a humorous light?

HarlemHigh.org has finally launched and is available for public use. This website is based on MediaWiki which is an opensource wiki-system of which wikipedia is based on. My intent of this website is to serve as a medium to chronicle Harlem High’s rich past and allow current and future students to write about the ongoing traditions and history of Harlem High. This is a free service and you are not required to pay subscription fees or anything. You can post content without registering, but I recommend registering for an account though because it makes it easier for you to track your contributions and it allows you to take credit for your hard work. This service is available to past, present, and future Harlem High students and also to any faculty or parents whom have some knowledge or facts that they would like to share. The more people involved in this project the better it will be, Harlem has the best teachers and students in the county, lets show the world how great we are!

-Developers: someone who is versed in webdesign and has knowledge of PHP, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript

-UI-Designers: someone who has knowledge of graphic design, color sense, and ui theory.

-Business- someone whom possesses business knowledge and the intracies of small businesses and the legal side of businesses. Business majors are welcomed

-PR/Marketing- someone who knows how to sell a good, and gain good raport with customers. Marketing is key to any successful venture.

-Accounting- someone who knows their way in the accounting world, finances are key for a well run ship.

-cyber security- someone who can anaylze systems for potential threats and be able to offer solutions to patch affected systems.

So my first days are officially over and I think this semester will go rather smoothly. In system software I have the same prof as I had had in data structures so that means his “quizzes” are really going to be tests and that I may have another challenge this semester. The good thing is that I know what I’m getting myself into. My intro to Anthropology class should be interesting: the prof sounds like he has tons of stories and sounds like I’ll actually do work in his class. In theoretical foundations I have my prof from pp1 so hopefully that class will go smoothly. My Econ class is a pleasant sight. Sounds like we’ll cover the basic of Econ in general which will be nice. The prof is also freshly out of school so she is still free of the mold and likes input from her students. And finally I have body conditioning in the hanner basement. For one I didn’t even know hanner had a basement. It should be a fun class because she said we’ll be doing a variety of physical activity. Overall I think I have a nice selection of classes and this semester should be fun
On a side note, the RHA sponsored casino night was so much fun, even more so for me because I was able to be a blackjack dealer. I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Cl training has finally come to a close and now the year begins to unwind. I’m glad that it is finally over and I met many wonderful people. My Villas staff is amazing and I love every single one of them (all six lol). Class starts monday and I couldn’t be more excited! An update on Res-life: progress is coming along steadly and nearing beta very soon, stay posted when it goes beta!
